BASH 43: Call of Duty 4

With the long-awaited delivery of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to store shelves complete, Christmas has come early for all the Call of Duty aficionados out there.

BASH marks this seminal event in the history of Call of Duty games with a special extended version of the show. Bringing you the inside scoop into the game is Jock Yitch, the host of BASH and two legends in the Call of Duty Community and both BASHandSlash.com CoD Hall of Famers:

Matt Pruitt of the Fox/IGN juggernaut planetcallofduty.com and

Rudedog of FPSAdmin.com

Show Notes

Modern Warfare marks a break with past CoD tradition in that for the first time, the game is not set in World War II but takes place in the not-so-distant future. Gone is the tactical gameplay of CoD2, say hello to the run’n gun fragfest of Modern Warfare. In our roundtable we first discuss the Hollywood-style thriller that is the Singleplayer game:

- Off the bat we discuss the edge-of-your seat plot of Modern Warfare.

- We review the gloomy and dark mood that permeates the game and how IW was able to translate it to your screen.

- It’s all about immersion in CoD4 and we dance all around this topic.

- We bring up the fact that there are plenty of disturbing themes in the game and we judge whether the game deserved its “M” Mature rating.

We cannot discuss CoD4 for PC without discussing Multiplayer.

- What are *the* weapons to carry and which ones should be left alone.

- What perks go with what weapons? What weapons go with what maps?

Thought most of our sentiments regarding CoD4 are very positive, there are some negatives as well. Some of these may resonate with your experience:

- The PC gameplay seems out of balance. The introduction of new CoD elements such as the Air Strike and Chopper Strikes seem too prevalent in the PC game.

- Listen as we explain why gameplay on XBox may actually be better than it is on PC.

- What functions are currently broken in CoD4?

- Did IW deliver the goods to the PC community or did they miss the mark? And, will IW/Activision continue to support us?

Jock also discusses tweaks you can do to your game to make it playable on your ancient PC. You can read about these tweaks here on BASHandSlash.com.

We have a full complement of CoD4 info on BASHandSlash.com so don’t forget to check with us often and download cools strats, maps or news on your fave game!

Also…with the introduction of Call of Duty 4, we urge you to submit your choice for the Call of Duty Hall of Fame. Do you know of someone in the community deserving of such an honor? Send us your nominee! Read more here.

BASH 42: Stratcallin

With CoD2 fading gently into the sunset and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare ready to rise and brighten all our lives, we thought we would mark this moment by asking a playing legend to come on the program and share with us some of his insight into gaming so that we can all get ready for the onslaught that is to come.

That legend is none other than Joe Amorosa, aka NABORE, from the Call of Duty division of Chris Lemley’s Team Pandemic. Nabore is the Team Captain of Team Pandemic - a leader in the truest sense - a position that allows him to be the chief strategy caller (he calls the “strats”), something he takes a lot of pride in. On this program he gives us insight into what it takes to be a team leader and gives us pointers on what he thinks makes a good leader.

As well, he gives us great insight into the strategy and tactics that made Team Pandemic one of the world’s greatest FPS teams.

For all you team and clan leaders out there, this is a must-hear interview.

Joe steps us through both the nitty gritty details like how to learn new maps and how to avoid being hit to the macro concepts of gun setups and outguessing your opponents.

Also, listen as he tells us about Team Pandemic’s impending foray into Call of Duty 4!

Be sure not to miss this episode.
